The Haiti Mission Project (HMP) began around 10 years ago when a group of people from a church in Michigan felt called to make a difference in Haiti. The HMP is a now group of churches and individuals from Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana and Iowa who desire to love God and love others by focusing some of their efforts and attention on the needs of the people in Haiti. Over the past few years, we are thankful for several new people and churches that have joined the Haiti Mission Project movement and we expect to continue raise more awareness in the future while continuing to share God's hope and love in Haiti.
The HMP works with the local Christian church in Port Au Prince, Haiti. We believe that working with the local church in Haiti allows our short-term mission experiences to have a long-term effect. By working with the local church, we are able to help them better serve the people and the community, since Haitians can then go to the church for their help instead of the missionaries who are only there for a week at a time.
Over the past 10 years the Haiti Mission Project has been able to construct a church from the ground up; restore one of the only Christian schools in the area; start construction on a second church site; help with the construction of a complex that includes an orphanage, health clinic and food storage building (that are all nearing completion); and deliver hundreds of pounds of clothing, medicine, school supplies and food.
It is obvious that God has used the Haiti Mission Project to do wonderful things in Haiti, but it is also amazing to see how the lives of those who attend the trips are transformed by the experience. When you allow God to open your eyes and see the world as He sees it, you can no longer live life the same way you did before.
